To our Monument Valley Community. We will be ending our "Secure" Soft Lockdown at 1:10 today. School will resume normal operations and we will still have after-school activities.

Monument Valley High School and TES in Utah has been asked by Kayenta Police Department to place our building in secure mode. During secure, all exterior doors are locked and no one can leave or enter the building. The school day will continue as normal. Secure is called when there is a potential threat or hazard outside of the school building. There is no threat to the school or students.

Reunification Plans for today: The lockdown at MVHS has been lifted. Parent reunification will begin at 1:00 PM. Law enforcement will guide the process for parents to enter the school grounds and pull into the bus loading area. Staff will be there to assist you in checking out your student. Please follow directions from law enforcement. Buses will pick up students at MVHS at 2:00 PM and will transport students following their normal bus route. There are no afterschool activities or late home buses tonight. Additional information will be provided later today regarding next steps and counseling services.

Thank you for your patience as we work with law enforcement to resolve the present concern. Student safety is always our top priority and we are following the guidance of law enforcement.
We will provide an adapted school day with availability to counseling support as needed once the situation is cleared with law enforcement. We will also provide guidance for checkout when allowed by law enforcement.

Monument Valley High School was notified of a potential threat and the school is in lockdown while the Navajo Nation Police clears the building. Lockdown means all exterior and interior doors are locked and students remain in their classroom. Parents will not be allowed to enter the building. We take the responsibility to make sure that school is a safe learning environment seriously. We always encourage students and their parents to immediately report any safety concerns to a school administrator or school employee. The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our highest priority at all times. We will notify parents once the lockdown has been lifted.

Dear Parents,
We want you to be aware of an app that many students appear to be using right now which lacks important safety features to protect users from predators, cyberbullying, inappropriate content, and privacy. The Saturn app for iPhone claims to be the ultimate organizer for busy high school students. Once students have an account, they can upload their class schedules and connect with other students in the school. Anyone who signs up for an account can see all the information about everyone else in the school who is on the Saturn app, information like a student’s schedule, including classes and extracurricular groups. To create accounts, the app uses students’ phone numbers, Snapchat accounts, or school emails. Saturn is NOT affiliated with our school district or any of our schools, and we do not provide information or support the use of this app. We encourage you to talk to your student/students about the importance of keeping personal information private for their own safety. Student safety is our top priority.
Thanks for your support.

Was a beautiful ending to our first pep assembly!! Our kids rock here at MVH! Also a big thank you to the faculty and staff that put up a good fight with a tug-of-war against our seniors. Included is a picture of those that attended the traditional blessing at MVH conducted by Andre Haycock and Larry Holiday!! More posts to come to celebrate all the many good things going on here at MVH!

The SJSD Board of Education and district administration would like to express appreciation to all stakeholders who completed our recent stakeholder surveys. All surveys are viewed and all comments are read. There is great power in receiving such a vast amount of data. Much can be learned from the patterns and consistent themes found in the hundreds of surveys received. This is so helpful to future decisions both at the individual staff member level as well as the school/district level. Again, on behalf of the SJSD Board of Education, thank you. Thank you for investing in your local schools. We value your voice and perspective. We hope to hear from you often. Ahxéhee/Thank you

Dear Parents/Guardians:
We want to hear about your experience with your student’s education. We invite you to participate in completing the Utah School Climate Survey. This survey includes questions about your student’s learning, school safety, and interpersonal relationships, as well as your attitudes about the institutional environment and your personal involvement in school. Your responses will be very helpful in improving student relationships, learning conditions, and the overall school environment.
Beginning today, April 24, 2023, we invite all parents, guardians, and caretakers to complete this survey for our school. The survey is completely anonymous; it contains 33 questions. You can take the survey online by using the following unique school link: SURVEY LINK. Please submit your responses by May 5th.
All your responses are completely anonymous. We have no way to connect you to your answers, and results will only be reported as group responses. There are no right or wrong answers. We just want to know about your personal experiences. Responses are housed securely in an anonymous format with The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) for evaluation research purposes. All evaluation research projects are in compliance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, (343 CFR 99.31 (6)) and human subjects regulations (Protection of Human Subjects 45 CFR 46).
As you respond to each item, think about your own personal experiences as a parent, caregiver, or guardian at your student’s school. Please answer all of the questions. When you have completed the survey, click on the “Next” button at the bottom of the page. You are done! Thank you for your time and opinions.
We hope you will take the time to provide us with this valuable information. Each school’s total survey results will be used to inform and develop appropriate strategies, procedures, and/or programs to enhance our school climate.
